Main Purpose of Job:  

Clarivate Analytics is focused on growth through being at the heart of discovery and evaluation for Scientific and Academic Research globally, with market leading solutions for research discovery, research management, analytics and publication submission. Web of Science is the core solution set driving growth and profitability and this role will drive the short term and long-term strategy and achievement of commercial and market objectives for the Web of Science. This position will be part of the Scientific and Academic Research Leadership Team and will work closely across functions to ensure the achievement of short and long-term business objectives.  The position is based in London and relocation assistance may be available.

Duties and responsibilities:

Commercial accountability for driving Web of Science growth:

  • Accountable for the revenue base and profitability of the Web of Science, including sales and retention.
  • Articulate and validate value proposition to end user and buyer in comprehensive business cases based on growth opportunities, ensuring alignment with overall strategic direction.
  • Responsible for designing and delivering strategies and programs that will support subscription growth and usage and engagement metrics, Data usage, pricing and rights
  • Responsible for developing and implementing pricing and commercial policies including data usage and integration rights.
  • Identification and leadership of execution of potential acquisition or partnership opportunities in partnership with the relevant teams.

Product and Market Strategy:

  • Aligning with the industry vision, develop and execute the strategy and roadmap for the Web of Science to establish a strong market position
  • Bring in-depth customer, competitive and market insights, needs and pain points, to identify new business opportunities within the addressable market and to develop and drive web of Science product innovation for the specific customers and personas.
  • Responsible for driving product design and content requirements in collaboration with the technology and content teams to ensure that product design and build meets customer and segment needs.
  • Prioritise activity and allocate resources needed to develop, market and sell products and services related to Web of Science.
  • Responsible for the Go-to-Market Strategy for Web of Science products and services.  Working collaboratively with Marketing to ensure the roadmap and offering is clearly understood and articulated in competitive messaging
  • Drive successful marketing campaigns that drives revenue growth of WoS, working with Marketing to monitor ROI for each campaign
  • Oversee the budget for Web of Science, in collaboration with technology and content budget holders

Product technical strategy:

  • Design product innovation to utilise the Clarivate Analytics Cloud native platform, in a service orientated architecture, utilising the agile methodologies of our technology team
  • Include APIs and data services as core components of the Web of Science offering, particularly given the opportunity to offer data analytics for science of science applications.

Customer focus:

  • Bring in-depth customer and market insights, needs and pain points, to identify new business opportunities and to develop and drive winning products and services including and augmenting Web of Science for the specific customers and personas.
  • Personally ensure regular customer engagement with researchers, academic institutions, funders, evaluators and research institutes
  • Maintain strategic customer relationships, including directly interacting and maintaining value-added contacts with industry bodies and key decision makers, and as appropriate attend and present at trade meetings and conferences.

Management Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain a high performance culture that consistently exceeds the expectations of all stakeholders (employees, customers, shareholders) and maintain an environment that optimizes team and individual performance for the business.

Knowledge, Skills, and qualifications

  • 10+ years of Product Management including P&L leadership in a related field
    • Direct experience across Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Product Management, Content Management and Technology
  • Preferred education at degree level – preferably a technical, business or related field
    • Experience preferred in the area of academic research
    • Proven success working and managing remote and virtual teams within a growing global organisation
    • Entrepreneurial mindset and a demonstrated ability to be adaptable, flexible, open to diverse ways of thinking
    • Ability to foresee, interpret and rapidly respond to market changes by adjusting strategies and realigning priorities accordingly
    • An innovative thinker, having the ability to translate new ideas and drive business development and new business opportunities
    • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced corporate environment within a  global team
    • Strong business acumen with a depth of commercial and financial knowledge
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across different functional areas in a highly matrixed organisation, demonstrating skills in influencing, negotiating, and the ability to work with ambiguity
    • Ability to communicate effectively and present information in a variety of different formats to colleagues and customers at all levels and in multiple cultures.
    • Executive level interpersonal and problem solving skills with the ability to successfully influence and quickly build credibility to maximize organizational growth and profitability
